Russian-speaking doula in Kent and London

Birth and postnatal support in Russian and in English, for families navigating NHS maternity care in a second language.

Giving birth in a country whose medical language you are still learning is its own kind of hard. The vocabulary arrives exactly when you are least able to study it, and consent conversations happen quickly.

I work in both languages. We can prepare in Russian, I can explain in Russian what is being offered during labour, and I speak to your midwives in English so nothing is lost in either direction.

Who I support

  • Russian-speaking families having a baby in Kent, Medway or London
  • Parents who understand everyday English but find medical language hard
  • Families where one partner speaks English and the other does not
  • Parents who gave birth in another country and find the NHS unfamiliar
  • Grandparents arriving to help who want to understand what is happening

How it helps

  • Birth preparation in Russian, including your rights in UK maternity care
  • A birth plan written in English that says exactly what you mean
  • Explanations in Russian during labour, when decisions have to be made quickly
  • Talking with midwives and doctors in English on your behalf
  • Postnatal support in Russian: feeding, recovery, health visitors and registration
  • Recommended specialists who also speak Russian

Common questions

Do you translate at appointments?

I am not an interpreter and I do not replace one for formal consent. What I do is make sure you understand your options beforehand and that your questions get asked and answered.

Can my husband join in English?

Of course. I move between the two languages as the room needs.

Do you work with families from Ukraine, Latvia and elsewhere?

Yes, and often. Russian is the shared language in many of the families I support.

Would it be easier to talk in Russian?

Book a free 45-minute meeting and we will talk in whichever language suits you.
