How much does a doula cost in Kent and London?
What affects doula fees in the UK, what is usually included, and what birth and postnatal doula support costs with Happy Birth in Kent and London.
This is one of the first questions parents ask, and a fair one. Doula fees across the UK vary considerably, because every doula builds their support differently. Here is what usually shapes the price, and what my own packages include.
What affects the price
- How many meetings there are before the birth
- How long the doula is on call for you (usually from 37 to 42 weeks)
- Whether an antenatal course is included
- How many postnatal visits follow the birth
- Travel distance and the doula’s experience
What you are paying for
Being on call means keeping a phone on day and night for several weeks, staying close to home and having childcare arranged at a moment’s notice. A birth can last many hours, occasionally days. The fee covers all of this, along with the preparation beforehand and the support afterwards.
My prices
- Birth support: from £1,800
- Postnatal doula: £30 an hour (minimum 4 hours a visit)
- Monthly support in pregnancy: £150 a month
- First consultation: free, 45 minutes online
Is there support if money is tight?
Doula UK runs an Access Fund for families on a low income or facing hardship. Do ask me about it, or read about it on the Doula UK website.
